It is my opinion that the Model 1896 and the Mark II are Early and Late Versions of the same Model, in fact, a few are found with both markings.
Each Model has its own serial range of approximately 1 to 1000.
A few examples are known with NO markings other than serial number, this is one of them
For Sale, One Model 1896 or Mark II if you prefer with no markings on frame or barrel except for the serial number which is # 856.
It is in Fine condition except for the Trigger Return spring which is broken. It has to be fixed to be able to return the trigger so the hammer will stay cocked.

Only a few examples unmarked except for serial number are known.
