US Korean War flare guns

Post by Alpino »

A bit ashamed
I know just about every flare pistol the Finns used in WW2
and 27x years in the Army Infantry, Airborne
but I do not know much about our flare guns
I have a Korean War Jeep, set up as a recon vehicle for the 187th [two jumps]
with everything from M1919A4 to signal panels to the "basic load"
However
did the US use flare guns in this war? and what type?
I guess 1"/25mm, but also 37mm?
In self defense, all I ever saw in my career was star clusters, smoke, & NVGs [night vision]

THANKS for any info & photos, FMs, TMs

pics.... no windshield... they don't fare well on jumps - & device on front "antidecapitation wire cutter" =)

Since the Korean War was so close to WWII, The US Government had plenty of WWII flare pistols which they used during the Korea War. 10 ga., 25mm, 37mm, and I am sure the European Allies used their own WWII variations.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

I can't say with any certainty without looking a Table of Allowances (TOA) from that time period, but if I were a betting man, I would say the AN-M8 37mm flare gun would be correct for your jeep. Unlike many of the other flare guns issued during WWII, the AN-M8 remained in US Army service until the late 1960s.

Thanks AWACS ! !
makes perfect sense
& paratroopers have a tendency to "acquire" USAF stuff =)
and in reality, after WW2 there was an abundance of equipment, ammo, etc
