Commercial NOT Military, Greener, Cogsell & Harrison Brass 1

Post by AlanD »

In my collection I have a brass one inch No1 Mk111* style signal pistol made by W.W. Greener complete with Elephant trade mark, s/n 2634.
This is in the range of serial number used for Greener's military contract of these pistols in WW1, they made over 3,000 of these.
However, my example only has London commercial proof marks and absolutely no military markings - its a commercial gun- and the only one like this by greener I have seen, even though they advertised these pistols as being available in their catalogues in the 1920's and 1930's.

Does anyone else have a similar commercial gun made by Greener or Cogswell & Harrison in their collection? I am not so interested in Webley & Scott examples as these are relativity common. I do think Woolseley would have only manufactured for a military contract, same for Chubb.

Regards
