Numbering of SLD

Post by Peter »

I have a question about the numbering on a 1936 SLD:

The SLD has serial number 49 and is Nordsee marked N.57.
Does anyone know why the Nordsee number is higher than the serial number?

Thanks in advance!

I do not know why. I had SLD Nordsee #1, and the serial number was #153. My guess is that the first contract delivery of maybe 200 pistols were pulled in random order to be marked on the backstrap. Most pistols have a lower Nordsee number then serial number, and unlike mine, most nordsee numbers would get larger as the serial numbers increased. there are a number of exceptions to this rule.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Thanks for your reply Howard!

The Nordsee number N.57 being larger than the serial number 49 confused me a bit.
Your explanation makes sense (as usual).

Hi Banemp,

Very well observed!
This proofs Howards theory that the Nordsee numbers were stamped at random.

S/n 1004 is mine, is s/n 1003 yours?
Let me know if it is for sale, it would be great to re-join the two.

Thanks and best regards,
Peter
