Forum Problems website
Hi everyone,
The forum has had some problems. BrunoH alerted me. At the end of july a setting had to be changed (to PHP 7.4) by the webhoster. This to keep it up to date and as safe as possible.
It appeared to be impossible to create new posts after this. So I changed it back.
I think there is a maintance problem because of several years of no maintance and update after update. I would like to hire a specialist to bring it up to date (and maybe add some better graphics). I'm not very good at it myself.
Would it be an idea that I get a quote for the projected costs and let you know? We maybe could share the costs together?
Kind regards,
Thomas Bemelmans

Re: Forum Problems website
Hi Thomas,
Many thanks for correcting the 'defect'.
I had created and maintained a forum of the same type more than 15 years ago... but I confess that for this forum I have trouble understanding how it is configured (before I had an ftp site and a hosted database). To sum up, I don't feel comfortable with this configuration. Who created the site initially? Is there any 'documentation' / procedure?
Anyway, thanks again !!!!
Best regards
Bruno

All
Its great to have the site up and running again. It was only when i went to post recently i found that I couldn't.
Some sites have a facility for forum members to make a donation to help running costs. This may be a way of insuring regular maintenance is carried out.
There is some great information on the web site, it would be a shame to loose it.

Thanks for getting us operational again! I would be willing to contribute to keep it that way.

Same here, I would contribute if there was a link to an account were this could happen. Paypal, Patreon, etc.

Sorry for my late answer. Happy to contribute as well.

Hi All,
Thanks for your response, will look into a way to create a donation button. Most importantly, the website hosting company has informed me that the 'old' settings, the ones that i restored after the posting issue recently, will stop working on the 6th of december.
After that, PHP 7.3 will stop working (this is what we currently use), PHP 7.4 will be the new standard (and had the posting issue.
I will try to have somebody work on the website before this happens, but am currently swamped with COVID care in the south of the Netherlands here, and have very little time. It could be that there is a short period that the website will not work, so sorry on beforehand.
Kind regards, Thomas
@BrunoH: my brother created the website himself (without propper ICT knowledge but with enough passion for Flare Guns), so that might explain the glitches and the strange settings (created 10 years ago).

Hi Thomas,
I understand

Bruno
PS: regarding the strange behavior, I think it may be linked to some customized Mod files (the one's managing the UI presentation - themes, styles or .css files if any).

Re: Forum Problems website
I have found a phpBB specialist, he will update the forum this week, could be that there will be a short period the forum will not function.
