Hi friends,

just to share some more information about the book:

After almost 4 years of work, the new specialist book „German Flare Pistols and Signal Ammunition“ will be soon available. The work describes every known German Signal Pistol, Signal Device, Equipment, Signal Cartridge and Hand-Signal device used from 1889 to 2012, with pictures, technical data and description. On 700 pages in large format (4,5 x 23,5 x 30,6 cm; 3,2 kg), with more than 1500 full colour pictures, a full overview is given in the English language about every known type and the technicalities and history of German flare pistols and their signal ammunition.

This comprehensive work is the first and broadest publications in the field and provides a full survey of both known and unidentified specimens. Many new and previously unknown flare cartridge variations as well as full descriptions of the stick grenades, hand signals, pyrotechnical devices, holsters, accessories, producer codes and headstamps can be found in this work.

Besides the overall documentation of signal pistols and devices, particular emphasis is given to Signal ammunition, including the civil, police and military cartridges from East and West Germany during the Cold War period. The historical framework is divided into two sections, from 1889 to 1945 and from 1945 to 2011. More than 100 contemporary photo documents are used to illustrate the use of signal pistols in the additional chapter “Signal Pistols in Action”.

Based on the earlier book “Deutsche Leucht- und Signalmunition bis 1945”this updated and extended version was constructed with the help of many international friends and supporters and finally translated into the English language.

The price of the hard cover book with dust jacket is US$ 125,- plus shipping costs. A very limited quantity of a signed De-lúxe version can be ordered with gold embossed full genuine leather cover by special quotation.

This unique and authoritative book can be ordered now and will be available for delivery in May/June 2012.

I just received my new flare gun book.

First, I must say, this is an Excellent Book, far better than any other information found in the USA. In giving it a quick skim, Out of the ~ 700 pages, perhaps 150 relate to German Flare Pistols and accessories, Almost 100 in the beginning of the book, and others distributed in appropriate sections throughout the book. The Remainder of the book covers German Flares and Flare gun grenades in detail.

If I was grading this book with just the skim so far I would give the Cartridge section an A+, and the Flare Gun section a solid B+.

Do not misunderstand me, as this book is a MUST HAVE for any flare gun collector. That the flare Cartridge section is better than the Flare gun section is no surprise, as the Author has probably the Finest Flare Cartridge Collection in the World, and that is his specialty.

My major complaint with the book is that Many of the flare gun photo's are just too Dark. Not enough time was taken in photo editing to get sharp details. A few of the descriptions relating to what can be seen in the photo's, could not even be seen in the photos. Most cartridge photo's are perfect, but even with cartridges some of the photo's are just too dark.

Other complaints are, there is a big lack of proof mark photo's and explanations - ( Navy, Luftwaffe, Police, etc. ). Well known variations of flare gun markings are missing such as with the Hebel, Manufactures Dapag & Steyr were not listed, on the Heers, no mention or photos of the N4002 markings found on many early examples.

As a Flare gun, and not a cartridge collector, I would have liked to have more detail and variations in the Flare gun part of the book. However, This Book has MUCH NEW Information on Flare Guns, and certainly gives a comprehensive look at German Flare Gun variations.

Recommended as a MUST BUY for any collector of German Firearms
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

Thank you for your comments.

I am hoping the book creates interest in the ammo. I had no idea there were that many different types.
