Lebel flare rifle

Post by K & K Collection »

Hi,

Here is the third that I show from the 8 that I found this week. ;) It's a French rifle (Lebel 1886 - M93) changed for firing German cartridges in WWI. Normally the rifles are changed for the French caliber (25mm), but a few are changed to 26.5mm. The rifles changed for German cartridges, you turn the barrel for loading the rifle ( see the pictures ).

Hi,

I don't find a regiment stamp on it, but I found a picture with the gun on it. The german soldier on the left side have the same rifle in his hand.

Great photo's. Are those lebels, French converted to flare gun, or were they converted by the Germans ???
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

If the flare is loaded into the twist-off barrel, does the bolt have an extended firing pin? Or does it take a blank to set it off?

I doubt it, but Can the conversion take a standard ball rifle round?

Also, is this the same type of mechanism with just a slightly different barrel,

and can this fire a ball round as well as fire a flare round ??

These questions are to help out a friend.
