1913 dated Webley & Scott Mk 3 *

Post by signalman »

This is a recent pick up by me. It is a 1913 Dated Webley & Scott Mk 3*, Meaning it was one of only 884 Mk 3 flare pistols produced by Webley in 1913.

It was converted in 1916 to a Mk 3 *, by adding a safety, and a flared bushing over the barrel to prevent the hand from accidentally extending over the muzzle. Also the lanyard swivel was added ( as per orders given in 1915 )

Finally, at a still later date, the flared bushing was removed.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Hi Signalman nice pistol and the dates were interesting, I have one dated 1915 do you have any idea how many were made in that year and how mine managed to escape having the lanyard swivel fitted were they recalled to webley for the conversion?

According to the research by Milner, 22,104 flareguns were manufactured in 1915 by Webley. I do not know if that is just the Mk3's or if it includes other models.

Whenever guns are converted, there always seems to be examples that escape the conversion.
