Hello Fson
These cartridges are for a target device for the Swedish navy. The ignition is electric. The cartridge cases are shortened Nordenfelt - cases. Of course you can load they also in the signal pistol M / 96, because this gun is built for the caliber of the Nordenfelt rapid-fire cannon. The signal cartridges are 96mm long, they existed in the colors red and white.
Best regards
Horst

Now I just need some period flares, and perhaps a holster - if they made one.
The earliest model had short hammers. To avoid accidents the navy applied at text:
"BY LOADING HAMMERS MUST BE MOVED TO HALF COCKED POSITION"

On the later model the hammers got extensions and by this blocking to open the pistol without half cocking the hammers!

Thank you Gotavapen,

Thank you for the information on the M1896.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

This is the same reason as Webley flare guns often have a funnel in front. To spare fingers ;)
