Good Day Everyone,
I recently acquired a LP42 'walk-in' this past weekend at our local gun show. It is an eun marked pistol, serial number 110242. There is a hole in the hammer, a loaded chamber indicator, no marks on the top if the barrel, undamaged Bakelite grips and it needs a good cleaning.
The barrel release button has no spring tension even though a spring is installed on the shaft. Has anyone experienced this on any of their pistols and what fix might be available?
Can someone recommend a good reference book for these pistols?
Thank you very much for your time and trouble and I look forward to any replies.
Bill
LP42 Disassembly
Re: LP42 Disassembly
Hi bill, under the spring, on the shaft, is a washer which keeps the spring under tension. It is most likely that the washer is missing, mabe broken and gone. Easy to repair, unscrew the release button, take spring out, find a suitable washer (might need alteration, it is flat on one side), put washer on shaft, then spring, then button. I am sure that is your problem here....
Re: LP42 Disassembly
Thank you Sir. Worked like a charm.

I recommend that "needs a good cleaning" does not include scrubbing, rubbing, polishing, buffing or anything of that ilk.
May your collection grow and prosper.

Are you serious? Does that work?AR-50A1 wrote:Lingerie cycle in the washing machine. :>)
Just joking.....I am sure you didn´t wash it, right?
Re: LP42 Disassembly
If you put the pistol inside one of those mesh bags made to hold delicate items....
No, I didn't wash it. I've been a collector of WWII firearms for over forty years and this is the first LP42 that I have owned. I also have a LP34 (1937 Walther).
The crown jewel of my collection is a 1937 Krieghoff Luger with matching mag, Krieghoff proofed holster and Krieghoff proofed loading tool.
Here is something that may interest you: a 1937 dated flare pistol holster converted to carry a Luger.

Hi Willi,
There was a holster like this along with a Luger with two matching mags that was being sold through the Rock Island auction company last spring. Same WaA and maker. http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewit ... 8/lid/1472
The holster in the RIA is not the same as the one I have which leads me to believe that this maker may have had a contract to modify flare pistol holsters into Luger holsters.
