Fson,
thank you for your most interesting posts. Can you tell us what the purpose of the attachment is for? Sorry for my ignorance, but it is not clear to me.

The german army used a very similar set as well, I have a few complete sets. The Gecko/Diana Flare gun was mouned via this apparatus on a tripod and leveled. Then they had special cartridges (Messpatronen) to use. It was used for calculations for artillery. I think it is the basis of measuring the fifference in speed between light and sound. The german set is found from time to time on ebay.

Thanks for the explanation about the issue with this very item.

Added a copy from a side of a manual for the pistol and accessories.

The last photo shows the German equivalent use of the Bundeswehr.
