Fliegerleuchtpistole with subcontracted barrel?

Post by bergler »

Hello,

a while ago I got a LP L in quite bad shape, very worn and heavily used. It was totally blocked from dirt and grease over the decades. I took it apart and found a mark on the underside of the Barrel that I know quite well. It is a "M" in gothic (?) writing in a circle.......in fact the exact same, at least for me, manufacturers mark found on many Hebles. Commonly known as manufacturer "Meiffert" (or "Mercedes" as the common kowledge nowadays indicates).

I have never seen this before and would not have seen it here if there wasn´t the necessity to take this Piece apart. Any of you ever noticed this before, any ideas?

For me it seems like that the Barrel might have been subcontracted to a well known flare gun manufacturer that was active in WW1 (and after?).

Any opinions welcome!

Hi,
Does the barrel have the same Id as the one of the pistol itself ?

Ok,
So the hypothesis that this barrel has been replaced is no more relevant.

yes, and even if it is replaced I did not know that "M" made double Barrels if this is the case.......

I will have a look under MY other "fzs" if there is more than one!

I checked 2 of my parts guns, on one the barrel is just marked " L " plus serial number of course.

The other has quite a few markings, "P" "E" "64" and "C".
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !
