I believe it is WWI vintage

August, 1918, Fox was awared a contract to make brass Mark IV flare pistols for the US Army.
Once up and going they were manufacturing 500 pistols a day. Production was halted with the November 11,1918, Armastice. They had manufactured a total of 4193.
Excellent flare pistol and one of the best. Used USA and Canada during both world wars.
