Hi Kürt,

I know only two serial numbers (SN 1478 and yours). It´s estimated that approximately 3.000 models could have been produced. Do you ever have seen another SN ?

This is my example of the Dutch Model 18. It is complete with a Baumschraube, or tree spike attachment, to convert pistol into a trip flare mechanism.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

You are very welcome.

Do you know if the "V" prefix of the serial number stands for anything??

On German Semi-Auto's a "V" can mean the pistol is a Prototype.

Seems unlikely. In German the V could stand for "Versuchsmodell" (test model or prototype). In Dutch it would have to be a P (Proefmodel).

I am a bit puzzled by the crown over JB stamp.

Hi Signalman,

your signal pistol is a "2,6cm Lichtpistool voor verticale shot". They shot a vertical line into the air, which is targeted to a measuring device. For this weapon, there were special cartridges, comparable to the German M-cartridges. The suffix "V" means "Verticale shot"

best regards
