No1 Mk4 marked CANADA

Post by ron3350 »

I have a No1 Mk4 alloy pistol with bell muzzle that has CANADA stamped on the left side of the frame.
The alloy has been painted black for some reason. I tried to post photos but this forum says it was too large to post. How do I send a photo of it?

This is a common flare pistol of WWII. There are quite a few WW II flare pistols with black painted finishes. I assumed this is for clandestine night use, but, somewhere in period literature there might be a record confirming why this was done.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Many times paint or whatever finish is additionally applied, was done simply for extra protection from corrosion.
