Guns are 5903 AM (August Merz), 40435 Gebr. R.(Gebrüder Rempt)And Mécanicarm 2853 mod. 1917. The canister is a gas mask and all shells have fuses and explosives removed. The French (American) model could have a rough fleur de lis scratched or stamped at the end of Mécanicarm. Guns are complete except the AM one is missing the locking screw for the hinge pin. Also the AM gun has a small 3 stamped on all slot screws and the Gebr has 35. The 3 and 5 are split by the slot except for the hinge pin screw where both numbers are on the non crescent side of the slot.

Congrats - and thanks for sharing the nice treasures discovered in your grandfather's attic! Was he a WWI veteran?

Yes, he was a Great War vet. He was in the US army corps of engineers RR division. We still have his strong box with his details printed on it. I think the canteen , Brodie helmet, blanket, and gas mask are his own issue. The rest he bartered for, « found » or picked up at flea markets in EU. Sadly he passed in 1930 from a RR accident so info is scant.

You probably already know this, but the digits stamped on the screw heads of your Hebel flare guns are the last digit(s) of their respective serial numbers. Nice tribute to a Great War veteran!
