Remington Hand Projector - info desired

Post by somd_mustangs »

Just picked this up and looking for any information about it.
A 2 3/4" 12 Ga shotgun shell fits perfectly but the offset firing pin prevents that from firing - which is probably a very good thing. It was suggested this was designed for a proprietary flare shell that used a .22 rimfire blank to initiate. It appears to be relatively modern, with a "C" clip holding the pull-type cocking knob in place.

It's marked "Remington" on one side and on the other :
Remington Arms Company, Inc.
Bridgeport, Connecticut
Patent Pending Made in U.S.A.

I have owned a couple, quite difficult to find, I am surprised Remington Collectors are not all over these when they turn up. I still have one in its original leather case.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Thanks... this was on epay for many months at $200, and the seller finally got tired of listing it I think, and asked for offers.

I sold one of mine years ago on gunbroker for $200. Don't know if the price has changed.

Have never seen one of those before. Were these made for flares or tear gas?

Primarily flares, but of course tear gas will work if you have a correct cartridge.
