I have several LP34's from AYF also from 41 & 42, and they all have this green tint when you put a flashlight on them. The same tint i see on this flaregun, outside barrel also shows up greenish under flashlight. I think it's the contrast from a deep enough scrape to hit the bare metal and a good finish that make one think paint chipping. I myself see no sign of paint atleast:)

Back to my initial remark, it was maybe a bad one. The colour gave a so deep feeling I think it was a post-war repaint.

And I remember a friend of mine sending me some pictures of flare guns reused by the Norway army with re-painting finish.
