BRITISH PERCUSSION LINE THROWING PISTOL - BRASS

Post by signalman »

This is an unknown style of Percussion British Line Throwing Pistol. Major parts are brass.

Grip resembles early flare pistol grips.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Hi Signalman,

Are there any markings indicating date and/or manufacturer?

Anything under the grips?

The rod in the barrel, can you post a photo? What caliber is the pistol?
Thanks,
May your collection grow and prosper.

Hello, It has British Proof house proofs as shown in the photo. No date that I am aware of.

The center rod is actually a tube, which holds the bolt. The empty space in the barrel around the rod holds the line.

It makes for a very compact line thrower. Ideal for rescue of individuals, or small boats.
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

Thanks for following up.

If is this is a muzzle loader, where do you put the black powder to propel the bolt?
The hollow rod wouldn't hold enough powder.

Have you seen any literature referencing this apparatus?

Do you also put black poweder behind the line? I may be missing something, which I often do, but something is puzzling here.
