Re: question about No 4 Mk I, 1945
I just acquired a No. 3 Mk 1 with "S.M. 41" marked on the rear of the frame and on the hammer. I thought the No. 2 Mk 1s and No. 3 Mk 1 were all made by Webley & Scott. Were some/all No. 3s made by Singer - or perhaps just some parts?
Re: question about No 4 Mk I, 1945
If the frame is marked SM then I assume it was made by Singer. They did produce a booklet at the end of WW2 which told the story of there war time production of munitions including the signal pistol and how many they made. My copy is in storage unfortunately.
The No3 Mk 1's I have seen have been dated 1940, 1941 and 1942. Some have been marked Webley and Scott, some just No3 Mk1 and the date.
I have seen a pistol marked N3 Mk1* on the internet. Not sure what this change was.
Are you able to post photos also what is the serial number of the pistol?
