Date when LP26 Trigger guard size changed

Hi,

I have recently acquired a nice Mod 26 steel flare gun.
Now if you get a look on the size of the trigger guard (trigger guard - not sure about the translation in English), you'll see that the size has changed (simpler for using gloves for instance). This change can be dated from 1936. Because the one with a smaller trigger guard is dated 1935 and the bigger one is dated 1936. I've got one with a smaller trigger guard but without any dated.. I can only assume that he has been manufactured before 1935.

Does anybody of you can confirm me that I'm not wrong about this deduction ?

Best regards

The serial number might help (as long as it's the same maker). It appears the number sequence is like other German pistols, a number series followed by a suffix as the progression continues. Nice trio, hope to add an early one to my collection someday.

I think it may be an honest hybrid. During war the time comes when you use what you got.

Are there other types of LP models that do have a standard large trigger guard?

Mix and match to get the job done. Or a special request.

Regardless it is a nice piece and it may have an interesting story.

Thanks for your answers.
From what I though have understood, between Mod 26 and before Mod 34 (no more in steel), the trigger guard has change for a better use (too small).

Numbers (if it may helps) are:

1935 smaller trigger guard 3210a
1936 big trigger guard 8217a
No date smaller trigger guard 5112

So from what I understand, the 1936 model shouldn't have a big trigger guard but a smaller one, isn't ?

Regards

Hi Bruno,
I was always under the impression that the trigger guard changed quite a bit before 1936. I do not know any aluminium LP34 with small guard, and I do have a few with small guard made of steel. But they all seem to have been shortened, that means originally built with a long barrel. All long barreled ones I have had and seen in auctions have a small guard. THat is why I thought that with the original introduction of the short barrel the larger guard was introduced as well. But this is my personal assumption only....

Thanks for your comments and hypothesis.
Regarding a aluminum LP34 with small guard, I've got one !!
For sure, it must be explained by reparation with spare parts (during war or after war, I'll never know...).
Best regards

Hi Bruno,
I have one as well, but I think it was adopted later. I have steel ones as well with big guard, but that is not uncommon as steel Lp34 were produced till 1943.....
