Thats a great looking flare gun. I have a 1938 S/237 code with a three digit ser# that looks just like yours. Have you ever shot it?

No I have not shot it. It will probably be included in a moderately large German WWII Militaria collection that was my fathers at a later date, still trying to figure out what everything is an dan approximate value range.
