Hi ayf,

This is a Canadian holster for an American 37mm M8 flare pistol.

Nice find, especially in Norge!
Med vennlig hilsen!

As to which units the flare gun was used by - I believe the actual designation is AN-M8, with the "AN" standing for "Army-Navy". In other words, pretty much any U.S. unit (and many allies, including Canada) used the M8. It remained in service through the 1960s (Viet Nam era) before being replaced by handheld flares, the MK 31 projector, and 40mm flares for the M203 and M79 grenade launchers.
