Identification of unknown Flare Gun

Post by Peter »

Hello,

Does anyone know what type of flare gun this is?

It is a barn find (in Holland) and therefore somewhat pitted.

There are no visible markings and the caliber I measured is just short of 19 mm, also 12 Gauge.

Any information is welcome!
Thanks in advance!
Peter

Hello, It is an Astra 500, or Model 1921. It is a rare gun, but in pretty bad condition. There is an early version and a late version. Do you have the serial number ? ?
Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

I am still looking for ANY information regarding the European Use of the Original Costons flares from 1859 through 1881. Photo's, Patents, contracts & orders, ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED ! !

Hello Howard,
Thanks for your reply and explanation!

It is fairly pitted, but in working condition (although I would not fire it).
Unfortunately, there are no visible markings or serial number.

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

Your pistol is the first model of the Astra 500. This pistol has no extractor, but two recesses to remove the cartridge cases. On the barrel is a sighting rib with the inscription. The gripplates are made of wood. The second model has no rib. The gripplates are made of hard rubber and the weapon has an automatic extractor.

Best regards
Horst
