five barrel volley flaregun?

Hi All,

Been away for a while so haven't posted recently.

Checked the upcoming Rock Island auction and ran into this thingamajig. Nobody seems to know what it is apart from that it is a five barrel 12 ga affair. Considering the shape of the grip I would say it may be a flaregun or a firestarter.

Anyone any ideas? Would it fire all barrels at once or sequentially?

Did some research. The thing fires the barrels sequentially so it is a repeater, not a volleygun.
Furthermore the chambers are 12ga but the barrels are 16ga at the muzzle. Would be a too extreme choke for a shotgun so I am now leaning towards either a primer testing device or a device to fire mace.

By firing mace, do you mean tear gas, or pepper spray ??

How old do you think this is ??

From all the pictures I have seen I thought it is percussion. Having said that I have no concrete evidence to substantiate my belief.
